Federal rules to know
- Employers, managers and supervisors can't keep any part of employees' tips.
- If you take a tip credit, the pool can include only staff who are customarily tipped. If you pay full minimum wage, back-of-house staff can be included.
- Federal tipped cash wage is $2.13/hr with a tip credit. Tips must bring pay up to at least $7.25/hr. Many states require more.
